Edited videos from the C. S. Pacat signing at Galaxy Bookshop are now online, including parts of the author talk, her reading from The Captive Prince, and the audience Q&A. The Prince’s Gambit comes out in Australia in July.
I have conquered technology and figured out a way to get the Periscope videos onto YouTube!
The video quality isn’t the best, and the audio has a lot of background noise (as one would expect in an awesome bookshop like Galaxy), but I hope that won’t deter you, because C. S. Pacat (rhymes with ‘the cat’, not ‘packet’) is such a thoughtful, self-aware writer. I absolutely love listening to her talk.
You can find Cat on her website, on Twitter or on YouTube. And if you’re now obsessed, as I am, with everything she has ever said, check out her Q&A with Kaetrin, and the wonderfully positive review of The Captive Prince in The Saturday Paper. You might also be interested in the podcast I recorded with Cat and Anna Cowan for Heart to Heart last year.
THE CAPTIVE PRINCE
Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos, but when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave.
Beautiful, manipulative and deadly, his new master Prince Laurent epitomises the worst of the decadent court at Vere. But in the lethal web of Veretian politics, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen is caught up in a dangerous play for the throne, he is forced to form an alliance with Laurent to survive and save his country.
For Damen, there is just one rule: he must never reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else…

Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos, but when his half-brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave.
With their countries on the brink of war, Damen and his master Prince Laurent exchange the intrigues of the palace for the sweeping might of the battlefield as they travel to the border to avert a lethal plot.
Leading a band of loyal men against desperate odds, Damen must fight together with Laurent to overcome machinations, ambushes and betrayals. With the future of both their nations at stake, a single misstep could be fatal.
Despite himself, Damen is increasingly drawn to the dangerous, charismatic Laurent. But even as the fledgling trust between the two men deepens, their enemies are poised to deal them a final devastating blow…
