If you are hoping to come to the RWA 2013 in Fremantle just keep an eye on the Virgin and Jetstar websites as sometimes they have really good special (cost me $250 return to Melbourne last year). There is also the Virgin credit card option although you may have to check what destinations it allows you to fly to.

As far as accomodation goes, There are not many hotels in Fremantle itself but there are quite a few self-contained apartments and cottages that could be an option. (Don’t go by the map that pops up on google if you type in fremantle accomodation as they have the Esplanade in the wrong spot)

I think it's worth checking out some of the airline/credit card partnerships. I know one of the Virgin cards has a 2-for-1 deal for up to 4 flights per year, so you can possibly share the cost with another attendee if one of you has the card. Or shopping at Woolies (chocolate included!) all year and trying to get enough Qantas points to cover at least part of the cost. The accommodation is going to be difficult, too, because after a quick search I've come to realise that there are very few alternatives within walking distance of the conference hotel. But seriously. JULIA QUINN! :D

Perth conference sound fabulous. Will have to get get creative in order to go, though. As long as such creativity doesn’t involve totally giving up chocolate, I should be OK.

I had a quick look at airfares and hotel rates and I'm going to have to get creative next year in order to manage it. I'd say, though, that it would be a great experience, and in terms of seeing overseas authors, it's still cheaper than an international flight. So that's how I plan to justify it to myself. :D
