This episode is the start of a very special series of podcasts that I recorded with the #romanceclass community in the Philippines. When I made plans to go to Manila, but couldn’t make the dates for an official event, #romanceclass founder Mina V. Esguerra offered to bring #romanceclass to me. What was going to be an interview with a couple of actors who have done live readers at the #romanceclass events turned out to be a series of podcasts, and we’re so excited to share a piece of #romanceclass with you. This first episode features the largest group of interviewees we’ve ever had on the show, so there were logistical challenges that I had to get my head around. (I’m pretty sure Rudi is convinced that my Manila audio recordings are cursed!)
We thought it would be interesting to hear the #romanceclass actors reading from books outside of the community, so I selected extracts from some of my favourite reads this year. The scenes include explicit language, so you might want to put your headphones on for this one. (Though I should also warn you that this will make the audio sound more intimate!)
Thanks to authors Miranda Silver and Avril Tremayne for letting us include extracts from their books. The Boys Next Door is a debut novel featuring a shy heroine about to graduate from high school, and the hot twins next door. Escaping Mr Right won this year’s RUBY for best long romance, and overall romantic book of the year.
Thanks also to @silvermusings, @kaetrin67 and @minavesguerra for your tweets and your support!

The Boys Next Door by Miranda Silver
Diana Cooper is 18, eager to graduate and go to Yale, and too shy to really look a boy in the eye. No one suspects the sexy lingerie hiding under her vintage dresses. No one suspects the dirty fantasies running through her mind.
Brendan and Ian O’Brian, the hot twins next door, are home from UConn for the summer: gorgeous, athletic, basking in popularity. Brendan, the “good twin,” attracts everyone with easygoing friendliness. Ian, the “bad twin,” leaves a mess of pranks, collisions, girls, and attitude behind.
As kids, the O’Brian twins were practically Diana’s brothers. But a year away changed everything. Now, Di can barely handle a hello to Brendan. And Ian — well, it’s easier to look the other way and pretend she doesn’t see his smirk.
Right before graduation, Brendan breaks the silence to invite Di for a swim. She figures she’ll test the waters, but that night pulls her into the steamiest deep end imaginable. And it’s just the beginning.
Can she dive in and live out her fantasies?
Can she let the past go and learn to trust?
And when no one’s who they seem — good twin, bad twin, or shy honors student — will her heart tell a different story?
She’d never admit it. But she might be over her head.
Escaping Mr Right by Avril Tremayne
Sometimes Mr Right is Mr Wrong, and Mr Wrong is definitely Mr Right…
Television reporter Chloe Masters is a woman of cool control…except when Casanova rugby league player Nick Savage is around. Then cool control goes out the window. Her boyfriend, Marcus, is everything she ever wanted — but it’s getting harder to deny her body’s reaction to Nick…
Nick Savage has been head-over-heels since he first laid eyes on Chloe – just a moment too late to stop her connecting with his team mate, Marcus. But when the goalposts shift and he and Chloe are thrown together on a week away, Nick dares her to get physical in whatever way she wants — with a kiss, a punch or anything in between. And if Chloe claims to feel nothing, he’ll leave her alone for good.
How can Chloe say no to a week of mindless passion with the man she hasn’t been able to get out of her head?
Trouble is, a lot can go wrong (or right) in a week…
