For Sydneysiders, the City of Sydney has been running a regular event called Library Up Late, where libraries host nighttime events with various themes. If I recall correctly, this started at Surry Hills Library and was so popular the city decided to extend it to other venues.
Next week, Customs House Library (across the road from Circular Quay train station) is hosting a romance-themed event called Raunchy Romance Storytime:
…a line-up of the finest (and most gorgeous) Australian actors and performers and…the raunchiest, naughtiest, funniest, swooniest stories around. We are excited to present this special adults only storytime featuring Rhys Muldoon, Libbi Gorr & PJ Lane…
To celebrate International Women’s Day, gold coin donations will be accepted on the night to raise funds for UN Women Australia. Visit unifem.org.au for more information on International Women’s Day and the work of UN Women Australia.
The organisers have asked me to curate the hour-long event, which means I get to choose the excerpts that the performers will read. It’s fairly awesome gig, and what’s more awesome is that it’s only a week away. Can you just imagine the irrepressible Libbi Gorr reading a science fiction erotic romance? Or Rhys Muldoon reading…well, anything, really. (Trust me, I’ve already had friends laying siege with their recommendations.) Or PJ Lane channeling one of the Brothers?
You can stop drooling now.
I’ll post more on the excerpts I’ve chosen—we’re in the process of finalising all the details—in the coming days, although I’m sure you’ll forgive me if I say that I won’t be revealing the titles and authors. I’ll drop a few hints, though, and we’ll see if anyone can guess the books. Some of them are from backlists and you may be surprised at what your favourite authors have written. (I know I was!)
Anyway, if you’re in the city that night, please consider coming along. You’ll need to register on the website because the event will be fully booked. The event officially begins at 8pm, but there will be music and refreshments from 7.30pm.
Hope to see you guys there, and if there’s anything about the genre in particular that you’d like me to touch on in my introduction, feel free to let me know!
