Those of you who follow me on Twitter might have figured out that I’ve been away on holiday for a few glorious weeks, and I freely admit that Book Thingo is in dire need of a comprehensive catch-up post. In the meantime, I wanted to let you all know about a fantastic event that the Australian Romance Readers Association has organised for tomorrow, in case you haven’t already heard through other romance sites or loops.

To celebrate 2012’s focus as the National Year of Reading, ARRA is organising a romance flash mob at Darling Harbour on Sunday. All you have to do is turn up to Pyrmont Bridge (the one that connects Sussex St to the Maritime Museum) before 11am with a romance book. At 11am, we’re all going to take our books out and read them. In public. WITH THE COVER FOR ALL TO SEE.

I made that last bit up. You don’t have to flaunt the bodice ripper cover, but, come on—when else will you be able to flaunt your man titty with like-minded people?

Wait. That didn’t sound right.

I jest about the details, but the event is serious. It would be great to see romance readers flock to this event. We’ll be reading our books for an hour, so make sure you choose a good one…or bring a couple along in case the first one’s a dud.

After the event, you’re invited to join ARRA members for lunch at midday at Oscars in Pyrmont (oner the bridge and just past the pub). There will be plenty of people there, so don’t be shy. Once we start talking about books, you’ll feel right at home.

For readers in Melbourne, a parallel event is being organised at Federation Square by Emmily Vollmer. Let her know you’re coming via the ARRA blog (see the comments) or ping her on Twitter (@E_K_Vollmer).

For more details about the flash mob or lunch afterwards, please contact ARRA.

Are you coming to the flash mob on Sunday? If so, what book are you thinking of bringing?

What do you think?
